SHLAADING STOWAGE

"Shlaading Stowage" is the project I focused on in my second year of engineering at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center. One night of struggling to put away clean dishes triggered the thought - what if the cabinet could come to me instead? The thought stayed long enough to produce another one - how many people could benefit from a moving storage unit?

Project Synopsis

The focus of this project was to mobilize wall cabinet units to maximize the storage space of the topmost shelves, specifically for those physically or medically impaired who may have more trouble reaching high-mounted spaces. With wall and ceiling heights of housing increasing to nine or ten feet high, reaching those top shelves is a difficult task to accomplish without the help of a chair or stepping stool. What Shlaading Stowage does is bring the storage to you. With the help of gravity and controlled mounting mechanisms, the entirety of the storage unit can be brought down the wall (or down from the wall) to sit on your counter and allow much easier access to those hard-to-reach top shelves.
